Shubman Gill overtakes Babar as world’s number 1 ranked ODI batter

New Delhi, November 08,  2023 :  Star Indian opener Shubman Gill has become the world’s top-ranked batsman in the ICC ODI rankings, ending Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s reign at the top spot since April 14, 2021.

According to the latest ODI rankings released by the ICC, Gill is number 1 with 830 points, while Babar Azam is close behind on 224 points. Gill who has had a dream run this year has been closely behind Babar in the ODI rankings all year, finally overtaking him on Wednesday and getting to the top of the ODI rankings for the first time in his career.

Gill has scored 1449 runs in 2023 at an average of 63 and a strike rate of 103.72. The young Indian batting prodigy has hit 7 centuries and 5 half-centuries during the year with a highest score of 208.

During the ongoing World Cup, Gill missed the first few games owing to dengue fever but during the next six matches the right handed batter has managed to provide a solid start to the Men in Blue scoring 219 runs at an average of 36.50 and strike rate of 96.90. In comparison, Babar has scored 282 runs in his 8 innings so far with an average of 40.28 and a strike rate of 82.69.

Mohammed Siraj becomes number 1 ranked ODI bowler:

On the back to top bowling performances during  the ongoing World Cup, Mohammed Siraj has become the number 1 ranked ODI bowler in the world. Siraj is on top with 709 points, followed closely by Keshav Maharaj at 694 points and Adam Zampa at 662 points. according to the reports published in www.livemint.com .

In more happy news for India, veteran batter Virat Kohli has jumped three places to reach the 4th spot in the ICC ODI rankings. Moreover, India’s number 4 batter Shreyas Iyer has jumped 17 spots to reach the 18th place in the ODI batting rankings.
