New Delhi, February 09, 2023: In a major plot twist on Thursday, Melbourne Stars’ ace spinner Adam Zampa requested a trade from the franchise to join arch-rivals Melbourne Renegades once the trade period opens for next season.

Zampa captained the Melbourne Stars during the last season of BBL where they ended up finishing last on the table with just six points from 14 matches, despite the presence of big stars like Trent Boult and Marcus Stoinis.

The news broke on Thursday morning that the Australian leg-spinner had requested a trade to the crosstown rivals, who he has an interesting history with.

During this season’s Melbourne Derby, Zampa attempted to run out Tom Rodgers at the non-striker’s end, which stirred up a lot of controversy.

In a statement released on their official website, the Renegades confirmed that the leg-spinner had requested a trade and said that both clubs have entered a non-binding correspondence that will see Sam Harper go in the other direction according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.

“The Melbourne Renegades can confirm Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has requested a trade to the club. Zampa, 30, captained the Melbourne Stars this season and has a contract until the end of BBL|14. No trades can be formally processed, and binding agreements between clubs cannot be made, during Cricket Australia’s contracting embargo period, which came into effect at the beginning of the BBL Final.”

“However, the clubs have exchanged non-binding correspondence that could see Zampa join the Renegades in exchange for Sam Harper once the trade period opens for next season,” read the statement.

Melbourne Stars general manager Blair Crouch said that the trade would allow them to target several quality players.

“This trade would allow us to target several other quality players, and we look forward to making a number of announcements regarding new signings once the contracting window re-opens.”
