New Delhi, February 03, 2021: Russia’s semifinal berth at the ongoing ATP Cup, in Australia, has been sealed after Tennis World no.4 Daniil Medvedev won 6-2, 6-4 against Japan’s Kei Nishikori, on Wednesday, February 3.
The 24-year-old Russian tennis star scored 19 winners in the game to steamroll over Nishikori to take his ATP Cup singles record a notch higher to 6-1. Medvedev, who won back-to-back titles at the Rolex Paris Masters and Nitto ATP Finals, has won 12 straight matches on the ATP Tour according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.
“[I am] really happy for the team. [Reaching the] semi-finals is a big step [I am] really happy that we made it in both singles. [Both matches were] straight sets, so really happy for the team and hopefully we can go further than that,” said Medvedev after winning the game.
Through this win, that accounted 2-0 in the ATP Cup 2021 for Russia, has taken the nation to the ATP Cup semi-finals for the second straight time.
Meanwhile, Stefanos Tsitsipas’ 6-3, 7-5 win over Australia’s Alex de Minaur, on Wednesday, has put the doubles rubber between Australia and Greece, in Group B, as the deciding match for the semifinal berth as the host nation’s tennis player John Millman, too, recorded a win against Greek player Michail Pervolarakis.
