New Delhi, May 06, 2021: IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians arrange charter flights for their players- Mukhesh Ambani’s Reliance owned-Mumbai Indians are arranging multiple chartered flights to send back their players home. Not only that, they are believed to have offered players from other franchises join them. With no UK player in their camp, no MI flight was bound for London, but definitely to other countries – South Africa, New Zealand and the Caribbean.
IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians arrange charter flights for their players-The MI players destined for New Zealand – Trent Boult, Adam Milne, James Neesham, Shane Bond, etc are likely to be joined by a few Kiwis from other teams while the flight for the Caribbean is being planned to fly via Johannesburg where it will off-load its South African players (Quinton de Kock and Marco Jansen). After refuelling at the OR Tambo airport in Jo-burg, it would fly directly to Trinidad where Kieron Pollard lives. These flights are expected to leave in the next 24-48 hours.
IPL 2021: BCCI face massive logistical conundrum after IPL cancellation
Organising travel for the overseas players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been nothing short of an ordeal for those involved, with a few franchises confessing to have been having a torrid time since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension of the league on Tuesday (May 4).
Having decided that the overseas players need to be sent back by charter flights, the CEOs and logistics managers of the teams, and of the BCCI as well, have been working overtime in organising flights and obtaining permissions for the take-offs. Complicating the whole exercise has been the fact that four of the eight franchises have players who have tested positive for COVID-19 according to the reports published in insidesport.co.
IPL 2021 suspended: 8 England players including Bairstow, Roy land safely at Heathrow airport
On Wednesday, eight England players including Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali and Curran brothers landed at the Heathrow airport. All eight players will need to serve a mandatory 10-day quarantine period as India has been put on the ‘red list by the UK.
“They will now quarantine in government-approved hotels,” an ECB spokesperson told Reuters.
“Following the postponement of IPL 2021, we are in close contact with our players and staff in India as arrangements are put in place for them to return home safely. The ECB understands the BCCI’s decision to postpone the competition for the safety and wellbeing of those involved, and thanks the BCCI for its commitment to do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all those taking part in the competition. Our thoughts remain with the people of India during these challenging times,” an ECB statement added.
