New Delhi, July 07, 2022: Media giant Warner Bros Discovery Sports (WBDS) has announced double-digit audience and engagement growth across its channels and platforms in Europe for the first half of the year.
Linear television audiences have increased ten per cent year-on-year (YoY) across Eurosport and Warner Bros Discovery’s free-to-air (FTA) networks that air live sport.
Audiences on Eurosport channels and sport on FTA are up in all major European markets, including France (23 per cent), Italy (19 per cent), Poland (18 per cent), Spain (46 per cent) and the UK (12 per cent). Sports coverage on the pay-TV channels, including Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, also attracted more of the available viewers with an average 12 per cent rise in audience share.
WBDS described the growth as ‘particularly notable’, citing an 11 per cent decline in total television consumption across the industry so far this year.
WBDS’ streaming platforms have seen unique viewers rise by 24 per cent YoY across all services, namely the Discovery+ subscription service but also the Eurosport app, during the first half of 2022. There were 49 per cent more video views added versus the same period in 2021.
Sport on Discovery+ has enjoyed a 50 per cent uplift compared to the first half of last year, as video views leapt 149 per cent and streaming minutes climbed 213 percent according to the reports published in sportspromedia.com.
