New Delhi, August 09, 2022: India’s Nitu Ghang has won the gold medal in her maiden appearance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She defeated the World Championships bronze medallist Demie-Jade Resztan of England in the final on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Nitu Ghang has won the final 5-0 with a unanimous decision in the women’s 48kg minimumweight category.
Nitu Ghang has sealed her spot in the women’s 48kg minimum weight final after the Indian defeated Priyanka Dhillon of Canada in the semifinal.
The Indian won the bout after the referee stopped the contest during the second round, when Dhillon was unable to withstand the two-time youth world champion Nitu’s series of assaults. The Canadian had earlier underwent a standing eight count in the first round of the fight as well according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.
