Ostrava Open 2021: Sania Mirza-Zhang Shuai win doubles title; Anett Kontaveit stuns Maria Sakkari

New Delhi, September 27, 2021: Star Indian tennis player Sania Mirza won her first title of the season as she and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai beat the pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Erin Routliffe in the women’s doubles final of the Ostrava Open on Sunday.

The second seeded Indo-Chinese duo defeated the third seeded pair of American Christian and New Zealander Routliffe 6-3 6-2 in the summit clash in one hour and four minutes.

According to the reports published in firstpost.com The 34-year-old Sania and Zhang had defeated a Japanese pair 6-2, 7-5 in the semi-finals of the WTA 500 event.

It was Sania’s second final of the season, following a runner-up finish at the WTA 250 Cleveland event in the USA last month with Christina McHale.

Kontaveit stuns Sakkari

World No 30 Anett Kontaveit picked up her second title of the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the women’s singles final of the Ostrava Open.

The unseeded Estonian had not dropped a set all week before powering past fourth seed Sakkari to claim the biggest title of her career and her third overall firstpost.com

Kontaveit won her first title at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2017 but then had to wait over four years before returning to the winner’s enclosure in Cleveland in August.

World No 12 Sakkari, looking for her first title of 2021, held a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head at tour-level coming into the final, but Kontaveit, who had seen off Petra Kvitova in the semi-finals, came through this time in an hour and 32 minutes.
